A few weeks ago, during my trip to Belgium, I found a spare afternoon and decided to sew a dress for my niece. I had packed some fabric just in case. I was actually going to make two dresses as she has a twin sister but I ran out of time. I left the fabric and pattern pieces for my mum to sew up the second dress, hopefully in the not too distant future...(still waiting Mum ;)
I used a soft knit from
Froy&Dind, and the
Charlie pattern, by Zonen09. This is actually a pattern for a top for boys, but I simply extended it and widened it a bit toward the hem to turn it into a dress. I had already used this pattern to make a top for my son, you can read about that
here.
The Charlie top is designed to be fully lined, but for the summer (or the Australian climate) I prefer not to do this, and I just used a facing piece instead to be able to make the folded collar. It was just a matter or retracing part of the front panel, to about 2cm under the bottom of the V of the collar.
Isn't she cute? I love the retro feel of this dress with the retro print.
A big thank you to my sister for taking such great photos! May the sun shine endlessly in Europe this summer and she gets lots of wear out of it!
