ABOUT

Description

The Cowrie Kini (named after the Cowrie shell! The shape of the top resembles two cowrie shells I think) is a bikini pattern with two style options for the top and a French cut bottom with medium coverage and two waist rise options.

View A, the flat front top, is finished with fold over elastic (FOE) and has a G-hook closure in the back. You can choose either mid- or high rise bottoms for both views.

View B, the tie front top, is self faced and this construction is commonly called “seamless”, meaning you don’t see the seams and the lining and main fabric is the same.

Skill level: Intermediate.

Fabric requirements:
View A:
115 cm wide fabric: 0.9 – 1.8 m
147 cm wide fabric: 0.7 – 1.4 m

View B:
115 cm wide fabric: 0.9 – 1.8 m
147 cm wide fabric: 0.7 – 1.4 m

Sizing: A – P (see sizing chart with the pictures)
Bust 71-147cm
Hip 79-155 cm

Notions:
View A
2.5cm FOE
1cm swim elastic for shoulder strap
1.5cm G-hook
Matching thread for both FOE and SELF fabric

View B

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (9 pages for View A. 12 pages for View B); A0 copy shop pattern (1 sheet for View A, 1 sheet for View B); Projector file.

Fabric suggestions: Choose knit fabric labeled “swim” or “active wear” with 4-way stretch. Typical compositions include Nylon/Spandex and Polyester/Lycra. Aim for at least 15% of elastane (also known as Spandex or Lycra).

Amazing service

I recently emailed Maaike to ask if she would recommend this pattern being made from the chunky cotton knit and she responded promptly and gave great advice. It was so convenient to be able to have the pattern printed in A0 size too.
