RECOMMENDED FABRICS:
For an authentic barn jacket (Barbara), it is best to choose a sturdy, dimensionally stable fabric. Think cotton twill or twill weave, or canvas for an extra robust look. Want to enhance the classic look? Finish the collar in a contrasting fabric such as corduroy or leather.
For the Bianca jacket with fringes, it is best to choose a fabric that does not fray, so that the fringes stay neat and firm. Leather, suede or boiled wool are ideal: they are sturdy, frayfree and give the jacket a stylish, finished look. Use a heavier needle (such as a leather needle) and special thread for the best results. Faux leather or faux suede are also great alternatives and are easier to work with on a regular sewing machine.
Avoid stretchy fabrics, as they don't have enough structure, especially when making the collar. Go for materials that hold their shape and don't fray.
