Winter’s here – let’s get cosy!
To celebrate the season, we’ve just added two new custom colours to our Good Earth Cotton heavy brushed sweater knits... Burnt Toffee, a warm caramel brown and Amaranth, a cool burgundy, are perfect for winter sewing.
They’re available in both our brushed sweater knit and heavy ribbing, so your makes can look polished and professional.
You can find all our sweater fabrics here.
These fabrics are perfect for jumpers...
The best thing about sewing sweaters? Many of them can be whipped up on your overlocker—making them quick, satisfying projects, even for beginners!
And if you love a bit of detail but don’t have a coverstitch machine, consider trying Maraflex thread. It’s an elasticised thread that allows you to sew stretchy fabrics with a straight stitch on your regular machine. Pair it with a twin needle and you can even mimic that classic coverstitch look—it’s a great way to elevate your finish!
You can find a great range of Maraflex colours here. Also, if we have found a good match for our stretch fabrics, you can always see it suggested on the product page.
1. Pine Raglan by Paradise Patterns
This raglan-style jumper is a big favourite in the Maaidesign office! It’s beautifully simple and comes with two views: a classic full-length version and a trendy cropped style that looks amazing with high-waisted jeans or trousers.
It’s a very approachable pattern with clear, thoughtful instructions, and the notches make sewing a breeze!
2. MADE-Line Sweatshirt by Madswick
A brilliant beginner-friendly pattern with a boxy, oversized shape and a relaxed cropped fit that hits at the hip. It’s one of those sweaters you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again. It's easy to wear, incredibly comfortable, and a pleasure to sew.
3. Hot Coffee Sweatshirt by Waves and Wild
This one’s a bit of a chameleon—it comes with three neckline options (crew, cowl, and hoodie), multiple lengths, and pocket variations. You can really make it your own, whether you're aiming for a classic sweatshirt or your own version of an ’oodie’!
Designed for a slouchy fit, it’s perfect for layering and lounging.
4. Roscoe Sweater by French Navy
This one’s for the detail lovers! With its dropped sleeve, zipped front yoke, and elasticated cuffs and waistband, the Roscoe has just enough going on to feel special, without being overwhelming.
It’s also great for beginners looking to level up, French Navy’s instructions are wonderfully clear and supportive.
Plus, this pattern is made for colour blocking! A great opportunity to use up scraps or mix and match our new custom knits for something truly unique.
5. Ressac Sweater by Maison Fauve
Chic, comfy, and full of beautiful details, the Ressac Sweater has it all. With its easy fit, raglan sleeves, and signature Maison Fauve style lines, it strikes the perfect balance between sporty and refined. We love the decorative darts and ribbed details, they add just the right amount of interest. This one’s quickly becoming a favourite! I'm planning a version in our new Burnt Toffee Brushed Sweater Knit!
We hope this little roundup has you feeling inspired to sew your way through the chilly months. If you try one of these patterns, we’d love to see what you make—don’t forget to tag us on Instagram or share in our community!
Stay warm and happy sewing,
