Description

The Classic Shirt is everything that the name suggests. A classic shirt construction with an understated, modern cut. This style is fitted on the shoulders and features neat sleeves which gives it an elegant feel. The style flares very slightly from the underarm to give some room around the bust and the hem has a deep V-scoop to give easy access to trouser pockets.

When sewing this piece, you will use all the traditional shirt-making techniques to create a timeless, high-quality wardrobe staple. To finish the hem, you can choose a double-fold hem or flat binding.

Skill level: Intermediate.

Construction techniques: Classic collar & collar stand, placket & cuffs, french seam, eased sleeve head and double shoulder yoke. You will have the option of finishing the hem with a flat binding or a standard double fold hem.

Fabric requirements:
150 cm wide fabric: Sizes 4 – 12, 170 cm // Sizes 14 – 20, 200 cm // Sizes 22 – 28, 210 cm.
110 cm wide fabric: Sizes 4 – 12, 210 cm // Sizes 14 – 20, 265 cm // Sizes 22 – 28, 150 cm.

Notions:
* 9 x buttons (roughly 1cm in diameter)
* 40cm of mid/light-weight iron on fusing
* Thread in a colour of your choice
* If you’re choosing the flat binding finishing technique, you will need an the additional metre of fabric to cut your binding from. This can be the ‘self’ fabric or another piece of lightweight cotton.

- Cotton poplin/lawn
- Linen
- Very lightweight denim
- Needlecord
- Lightweight twill
- Flannel
