ABOUT

Description

The Darcy Coat is an elegant and comfortable coat designed to work with your body, not against it. It is a layer that can be slipped on over your thickest jumper and still drape beautifully while giving you total freedom of movement.

Fit-wise this coat is very oversized and roomy, so if you’re in between sizes, it’s recommended to choose the smaller size. The volume has been added to the pattern through a dropped shoulder, deep armholes, wide sleeves and a wide main body.

Skill level: Intermediate - Advanced.

Sizing: Sizes 4 - 28 (with PDF Layers)

For Body Measurements & Finished Garment Measurements, click here.

Construction techniques: Welt pockets or patch pockets | Collar, collar stand & facing | Option for a full lining | Inset sleeve with optional shoulder pad | Sleeve tab with adjustable width | Buttons or snaps | Hand finishing.

Fabric requirements:
150 cm wide fabric: Sizes 4 – 12, 275 cm // Sizes 14 – 20, 310 cm // Sizes 22 – 28, 340 cm.
110 cm wide fabric: Sizes 4 – 12, 375 cm // Sizes 14 – 20, 410 cm // Sizes 22 – 28, 485 cm.

Notions:
* Fastenings - you can use buttons or snaps or a combination of both for your fastenings.
   - Buttons - We recommend buttons with a width of 2/3cm for the centre front and a width of 1/1.5cm for the sleeve tab.
   - Snaps - We recommend 12mm snaps
* You will need 6 buttons or snaps for the centre front fastening and 6 buttons or snaps for the sleeve tabs
* Shoulder Pads - if you would like to add a shoulder pad you’ll need 2 pads that are suitable for coats.
* Thread - you can choose either a matching or contrasting thread.
* Pocketing - if you’d prefer to use a pocketing for your welt pockets (instead of lining) you will need a small piece of cotton fabric for the welt pocket bags

Amazing service

I recently emailed Maaike to ask if she would recommend this pattern being made from the chunky cotton knit and she responded promptly and gave great advice. It was so convenient to be able to have the pattern printed in A0 size too.
