My favourite sewing magazine , La Maison Victor, is now available in Australia and I'm super excited!
La Maison Victor is a Belgian magazine that launched about 3 years ago and it became an instant hit. It is a magazine filled with sewing patterns for the modern seamstress.
Personally, I am extra excited since I grew up in Belgium so I am quietly proud that more Belgian style sewing is coming to Australia.
Now I won't need to ask any overseas visitors to bring me a copy. (chocolate will do ;)
To celebrate the launch of the English version of the magazine, La Maison Victor is having a blog tour.
And here is my contribution. I sewed the Morris Shirt for my youngest son.
We recently moved from Sydney to the picturesque Alpine region so I took him to the river for the photoshoot. This spot is about 200 metres from our house, how good is that?
He had rocks to play with so he was happy while I took the photos.
The Morris shirt is a relatively easy shirt to sew. I love the special hidden chest pocket.
I used a cotton fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics, called Lovey Dobbey.
It has a gorgeous weave of navy blue and white threads. It is perfect for this type of shirt as it looks beautiful on both sides, so great for those rolled up sleeves.
But can you spot the mistake I made?
I cut one part of the placket on the wrong side of the fabric and was mirrored. I did not have enough washed fabric left to cut another one, so I decided to just make the placket overlap the other way. It's the way for girl shirts I know... but my little man will never know.. until the day he starts reading my blog posts....
I forgot to add extra seam allowance at the end of the sleeves so they ended up a bit shorter than intended by the pattern. Note to self: read the instructions first!!
I added a few stitches to the top of the rolled up sleeves to keep them in place.
And for a little dash of colour, I sewed in the yellow MaaiDesign tag in the side seam.
I guess that is one part of his Christmas outfit done (oops, did I mention Christmas?!). Now to sew some matching shorts...
(note: in these photos, he is wearing Hudson pants in denim blue french terry, with matching ribbing, he loves em!)
