15 sewing patterns for your kids

Do you love sewing for kids?

Then let me share my favourite sewing patterns for children.

Winter has well and truly hit Australia, at least we are feeling the chill down here in the south of the country.

So this list is focussed on those pieces you need to sew a whole winter wardrobe.

All patterns listed here are by independent pattern designers, by mums who have turned their passion into designing sewing patterns for modern clothes.

Given my background, you might spot a bit of a Belgian theme is this list. ;)

Tops/ T-shirts:

1. Waterfall Raglan

This wonderful pattern by Chalk and Notch will not only help you sew beautiful tops for girls, you can use it for a dress too. And it comes in an adult version as well. Doesn't it look super comfy?

2. Billie T-shirt

My most used sewing pattern to date. I have this pattern traced in several sizes, with regular and raglan sleeves. It comes with many options so you can make a range of different tops in no time. It was designed for boys but nothing stops you from using it for girls too. This is a pattern to use over and over again.

It is a pattern by Zonen09, from Belgium. She designs especially for boys.

3. Julia Sweater

This is one of those super fast projects. Just combine a front and back panel, and add matching ribbing to finish it all off. (And it comes in a Mum size too.)  With this tutorial, you can even turn it into a dress.

This is also a design by a Belgian designer: Compagnie M.

4. Spin Dress

It twirls! What more can I say? All girls love this right? This classic fit and flare dress is by Made It Patterns.

5. Cocoon Dress

Prefer not to twirl? This simple dress with girly details on the shoulders is very cute.

6. Nore T-shirt & Dress

This is the latest pattern by Compagnie M and it is one to use in all seasons. You can use it to make T-shirts, dresses, with long and short sleeves, or even use it to make a nightgown. Very easy to sew, but still with beautifully positioned seam lines to make it that extra special. (rumour has it that there is an adult size in the works!)

7. Hudson

Another family favourite!  Such a quick and easy sewing project. Even Mum & Dad can join in.

8. Jacob

Nice trousers for boys can be hard to find. This sewing pattern by Zonen09 will take you back in time. It's such a fun and unique design.

9. Top Knot Romper, Dress & Tunic

Technically not a pattern for pants, (you can use it for a whole range of garments!) but I've used it to make loose-fitting, harem style pants for my daughter. She almost lives in them! Here is an example in a rayon fabric.

10. Ole

Another Zonen09 pattern, great for a stunning cardigan for boys. And it's reversible!! How cool is that? This one is on my to sew list for this month.

Available in English sizes 2-9 yrs, with 10-16yrs sizes coming soon in English (currently available in Dutch).

11. Hero Vest

Another pattern for the boys, although it works for girls too of course. Designed by Make It Perfect, from Tasmania.

This vest is also available in an adult size.

12. Susanne Cardigan

Sewing cardigans can hardly be easier with this pattern. With the many options you can even make this one reversible. Also available in an adult size.

13. Moiano

This coat pattern is ideal for those who have never sewn a coat before. It is designed by Straightgrain, also from Belgium.

14. Louisa

Compagnie M designed 2 coat patterns, this is the girl version, based on the popular Louisa dress.

15. Lewis

The Lewis coat is the boy version of the Louisa Coat. I love those lines on the back made with piping.

I hope this list offers lots of sewing inspiration.
